Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at kittymcquaid@resilientmindscounselingservices.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Resilient Minds Counseling Services offers individual therapy and group counseling services for children, teens and adults.

We specialize in working with children and teens struggling with overwhelming emotions, anxiety problems, low self-esteem, and negative thought patterns, and provide coaching and therapy services for the parents and caregivers who support them.

We also provide DBT Skills Training for adults of all ages, individually and in the group setting.

The initial session is an opportunity to learn more about the individual beginning therapy and what brings them to therapy. In the first meeting, we will also discuss an initial plan for beginning therapy. If either the client or I find that I may not be the most effective resource, I will provide referrals for other providers.

Often with parents of younger children, I use a 1:3:1 approach. The first meeting will be with the parent; I will then meet individually with the child for three sessions; and the fifth session will include only the parents, during which I will share my observations and recommend a course of treatment for a child. This may mean additional sessions with the child, the parents, or both.

Individual sessions typically lasts for 50 minutes, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences.

Group sessions may vary in length, but the typical group session is 75 minutes.

Individual 50-minute session – $150

75-minute Group therapy session – $55

You will never be billed more for a session than the amount previously agreed upon, even if we run over time.

Absolutely! I believe the best way to support a child is through collaboration with all supports. You may request I contact any of your child's support team, and at times, I may ask to do so proactively. I will only reach out to supports with your permission and will ask you to sign a Release of Information prior to doing so.

Yes! While I believe there is great value in meeting in-person, I am happy to meet virtually if that is more convenient for you.

You will never be billed more for a session than the amount previously agreed upon.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
