Parenting a daughter who's struggling can feel overwhelming, whether she's a teenager navigating high school, or a young adult finding her footing in college or her first years on her own. You love her, you're trying everything you know how, and you still might feel unsure whether you're helping or making it harder. At Resilient Minds Counseling Services, I offer parent coaching — a space specifically for you, separate from her own therapy and just as valuable whether or not she's currently working with anyone — to give you real strategies for supporting her emotional well-being and building a calmer, more connected relationship, at any stage.

When a daughter struggles with anxiety, perfectionism, emotional outbursts, or a harsh inner voice, it's easy to feel unsure how to respond. Reassurance, discipline, problem-solving — you've probably tried all of it, and still feel like nothing quite lands. Parent coaching gives you practical, research-backed strategies to help her through what she's facing, and helps you feel more confident doing it. Together, we'll work on:
One of the core approaches I use in parent coaching is SPACE: Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. It's evidence-based, but unlike traditional therapy, your daughter doesn't need to be in the room for it to work. SPACE coaches you, the parent, on how to adjust your own responses to her anxiety in a way that helps her build confidence and self-regulation on her own. It's especially effective when anxiety shows up as separation anxiety, generalized worry, social anxiety, OCD and compulsive behaviors, or avoidance of school and activities.
A lot of what keeps anxiety in place, often without either of you realizing it, is accommodation — letting her avoid what scares her, or constantly reassuring her that everything's fine. Through SPACE, I help you recognize where that's happening and gradually reduce it, while still holding onto the warmth and support she needs. The goal isn't to pull away from her, it's to help her discover she can handle more than she thinks she can.
Since your daughter spends so much of her time at school, it matters that the support she gets there matches what's happening at home. When it's helpful, I work directly with school staff — teachers, counselors, administrators — so the strategies we build together get reinforced in both places, not just one. That consistency is often what makes change actually stick.
Supporting your daughter's emotional health isn't something you have to figure out alone. Through parent coaching, collaborative care, and evidence-based approaches like SPACE, I'll give you real tools to support her and to feel more like yourself as her parent along the way. If you're not sure how to help her through anxiety, big emotions, or behavioral struggles, I'd love to talk. Together, we can build a plan to help her grow with real confidence and resilience.
